John MacPhail

John Macphail started his yoga practice in 2010 when he came across an article in Sports Illustrated about an NHL team that started doing yoga. At that time he was playing competitive squash and thought it would be helpful. A year later, he enjoyed yoga for what it was and in 2011 he applied for teacher training at TAYS Halifax and has been teaching ever since. He has a black belt in TaeKwonDo and he currently spends most of his spare time going to Cross Fit.

With his RYTT 200 hours he is also a certified Yin Yoga teacher (100 hours). Since 2011, he has been working towards teacher certification in Acroyoga and currently has more than 150 hours of training from New York, Boston, and Pennsylvania. .

"My passion is definitely with practicing Yin. With Yin, we delve deep into the connective tissue (fascia) of the body. I believe all yoga practices should include some time for Yin. It strengthens and opens the body, can be very therapeutic for sore or injured muscles and joints, and is amazing for the mind. Any athletes should definitely be using a Yin practice for body maintenance. When you think about most people that exercise at any level, how much time do they dedicate to giving back to their bodies? Yin Yoga is all about giving back to the body and mind.”
